Launched by the Bureau du Design, de la Mode et des Métiers d'art, the Fundamentals program provides support each year to professionals in the Paris region who are just starting out in the design and crafts sectors. It aims to support them in structuring their business: consolidating their economic model, enhancing the value of their approach, acquiring tools for sustainable development.
Intensive support over 5 months, the program combines group training and individual follow-up by two experts: Christel Valenza - AMEADE, in development strategy, and Laurence Susini, in communications.
The eight participants were selected following a call for applications. Discover them:
Claudia Cauville, La Mine Céramique
Ceramic artist and designer

Founder of the La Mine Céramique workshop in Paris, Claudia Cauville's work is at the crossroads of creation, transmission and collaboration with architects. She designs bespoke pieces, teaches ceramics to a wide audience and exhibits her work in specialized galleries and shows. A finalist in the Ateliers d'Art de France competition, she is now looking to strengthen the structure of her business and expand her professional network.
Damien Coquet
Designer Maker

A designer and manufacturer based in Paris, Damien Coquet designs bespoke furniture and objects for professional clients, favoring the use of reused materials. A former art director, he has set up his own studio and collaborates with organizations such as the City of Paris, Galeries Lafayette and Asics. He has exhibited at Maison & Objet.
Laure Philippe
Designer

Specializing in working with paper and light, Laure Philippe creates luminaires in molded paper that are both poetic and functional. Her "Papier Puzzle" project, developed in 2021, forms the core of her business, which she pursues through a permanent catalog and custom orders. Resident at the Ateliers Openbach in Fontenay-sous-Bois, she pursues her research thanks to a grant from the Ateliers Médicis, while leading cultural mediation initiatives.
Emilie Lay, Mat Na Paris
Ceramist and basket-maker

Trained in textile design, Émilie Lay is developing a hybrid practice that blends ceramics and basketry. Through her Mat Na Paris brand, she explores the encounter between natural materials - stoneware, rattan, rope - to create sensitive objects, somewhere between sculpture and use. Her work draws on the world of textile craftsmanship, where gesture, texture and volume play a central role. Today, she continues to experiment with new materials such as metal wire and crocheted rope.
Camille Le Chatelier, Eugène Griotte
Porcelain factory

Trained at the Beaux-Arts de Paris and ENSA Limoges, Camille Le Chatelier has developed a practice in porcelain that oscillates between sculpture and utilitarian objects. She founded the Eugène Griotte workshop, where she designs and hand-makes small series. Inspired by ancient forms and everyday uses, she explores subtle detour to propose new gestures. A stay in Jingdezhen, China, has enriched her practice with a dialogue with other ceramic traditions. The studio is also a space for transmission, through courses, demonstrations and collaborations.
Julie Percillier
Embroiderer and textile landscaper

Julie Percillier draws her inspiration from the plant landscape, which she observes and studies through a constant dialogue between field and studio. Trained in tapestry and textile arts at ENSAAMA in Paris, then at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, she has developed a personal language combining handmade embroidery, machine embroidery and bobbin lace. Her work gives rise to long-lasting plant compositions, made from natural, stabilized or dried materials, sometimes valorizing recycled materials.
Julia Robert, Julia R
Glassmaker

Julia R creates one-of-a-kind pieces using a variety of glass techniques. Her work includes paintings combining engraving, grisaille, sandblasting and graphic arts, as well as the creation and ornamentation of glass objects such as panels, mirrors and screens. She also designs contemporary jewelry using glass beads sculpted and engraved in her studio.
Marius Tessier, Atelier Marius Tessier
Engraver and intaglio printer

Marius Tessier is developing a workshop specializing in copperplate intaglio engraving. He accompanies artists and private individuals in the creation and printing of engraved plates, offers introductory courses and collaborates with other craftsmen. His work combines technical know-how and adaptation to artistic projects to make engraving accessible and contemporary. He won the Prix Savoir-faire en transmission in 2021.
While the issues are specific to each one, common challenges emerge: clarifying positioning, acquiring a management methodology, enhancing the value of know-how, reaching new customers and refining the commercial offer. Several participants also mentioned the need to gain a better grasp of the legal aspects of their business, or to learn how to formalize their development strategy.
The program also emphasizes the importance of teamwork. Exchanges of experience, sharing of resources and cross-fertilization of viewpoints between participants foster an enriching work dynamic. Many of them emphasize the value of "not going it alone", or "confronting your methods and doubts with other professionals facing the same challenges".
