Call for Applications - LE CUIR, the Hermès Academy of Craftsmanship.
Applications are being accepted until June 28, 2026.
The Hermès Corporate Foundation is calling for applications for the eighth edition of the Académie des savoir-faire, its program dedicated to exploring craftsmanship and avenues for innovation centered on a universal material.
This edition, which will take place in 2027, will focus on leather. The program will be led by designer François Azambourg, renowned for his experimental and poetic approach.
In the first half of 2027, the selected fellows will participate in lectures, presentations, and roundtable discussions exploring leather from historical, technical, symbolic, and ecological perspectives. Weekend field trips will allow them to explore the contexts of leather production, processing, and conservation. Then, in the second semester, they will combine and apply their respective expertise and the knowledge acquired in the first semester during a large collaborative workshop led by François Azambourg.
This call for applications is open to professionals who wish to expand their skills and are available to participate in the entire program:
- craftsmen working in trades related to the production and processing of leather (tanners, leatherworkers, leather goods makers, glove makers, boot makers, trunk makers, saddlers, bookbinders, parchment makers, embossers, manufacturers of tools and jewelry for the leather goods industry, etc.)
- to designers and engineers specializing in the leather industry and its related sectors
Approximately twenty French-speaking professionals working in France or neighboring countries will be selected, with no age restrictions; half will be artisans and half will be designers and engineers, divided equally between the two groups.
