Study on company visits in the arts and crafts sector

The French Ministry of the Economy and the Entreprise et Découverte association are currently conducting a study on the development of know-how tourism in the arts and crafts sector.

The aim of this initiative is to structure and professionalize the company visit industry, based on the sector's specific challenges: promoting know-how, local roots, passing on skills and economic development.

Know-how tourism is booming: in 2022, 20 million visitors were welcomed to 3,500 French businesses. Arts and crafts represent a major component of this dynamic, with 500 businesses listed as open to the public and 4 million visitors welcomed each year, according to data from the annual observatory published by Entreprise et Découverte.

The current study is part of the national strategy to promote arts and crafts, supported by the Ministries of Economy and Culture. It is accompanied by a consultation designed to identify :

  • Companies already open to the public and wishing to professionalize their approach;
  • Companies not currently involved but interested in opening their doors to the public.

The aim is to identify the levers that will enable art studios to use company visits as a tool for promotion, communication, sales or recruitment.
