Exhibition - Pays'Âges de la Baie du Mont Saint-Michel

February 7 to April 14, 2024

Dorian Etienne

Pays'Âges reveals the identity of territories "at risk" (rising waters, human footprint, disappearance of biodiversity, etc.) from an unusual artistic angle, that of the sky.

Through this collective, local and itinerant project, artist-designer Dorian Étienne is creating a collection of large-format, volume tapestries. They present the singularities of the region studied, its topography and biodiversity. They are made on site using local, natural materials. These monumental works bear witness to a "state of place" at this crucial moment of ecological disruption.

Pays'Âges is first and foremost a participatory project: local residents are invited to work alongside the artist to learn the techniques of plant dyeing and tufting, and then to take part on a daily basis in illuminating their territory by creating the work.

These creations will be repeated several decades later. Exhibited alongside the first ones, the diptychs will bear artistic witness to the evolution of the region, as well as to the ecological and societal issues at stake.

Prior to this, each tapestry-testimony is accompanied by a large-format print of the territory, projected 50 years into the future. This scenario is created by analyzing local development data, with the support of researchers and specialized organizations.

The Pays'Âges collection is growing year by year, supporting the work of local organizations in their mission to protect and enhance the environment, biodiversity and landscapes.

Dorian Etienne came through Les Ateliers de Paris as a co-worker.
