Resident profile - Alice Rio-Derrey
Alice Rio-Derrey, founder and artistic director of 2 Mai Paris.
After studying at the Duperré school and then the Institut Français de la Mode, and spending the first part of her career working for major fashion houses in Paris and New York, Alice launched her career as a freelance designer and consultant for various brands. The diversity of her experiences gave her a 360° view of fashion.
In 2018, Alice decided to put her creativity and values at the service of her commitment to fashion by giving life to 2 Mai Paris.
A made-in-France fashion brand for women and men, offering limited editions of clothing made from upcycled materials. A colorful, flamboyant line, an ode to creation, culture, nature, humanity and adventure.
With 2 Mai, she shares her poetic vision of "real life", seeks to celebrate popular culture by magnifying it, and to bring to life eclectic, uncomplicated, flamboyant and embodied fashion.
Alice sees 2 Mai as a human adventure, made possible by the talented people who build this story with her over time.
It will join the Ateliers de Paris incubator in September 2023.
"Statement pieces born in a beautiful mess
2 Mai, a unique creative proposition that combines refined cuts and artistic textile composition to give life to strong, free, singular pieces that last over time.
It was through upcycling - the use of end-of-stock or second-hand fabrics - that 2 Mai was born.
Rediscovered treasures are reborn, celebrating memories and sharing the love of handmade and singularity.
The exclusivity and rarity of the proposition accompanies the brand's desire to restore sentimental value to clothing.
A native of Troyes, her roots in this ancient cradle of the textile industry have contributed to the overall coherence of the project since its inception.
The idea of using upcycling came from the end of textile stocks available in the area. From its launch in 2018 to the present day, 2 Mai is proudly made in France, but above all made in Troyes.
The Varsity Jacket, which has become a timeless wardrobe staple, was the first piece introduced by the brand and will remain one of the iconic 2 Mai.
This piece paved the way for an ever-evolving urban wardrobe that now boasts some twenty references.
May 2, an infinite journey in perpetual reinvention!
News from 2 Mai Paris
"In May do as you please!"
The brand's next pop-up will take place from May 22 to 26 at the Galerie des Ateliers in Paris.
This event will celebrate the launch of 2 Mai's exclusive new drop: a series of unique pieces reinterpreting embroideries from various horizons - from Alsatian folklore to Madagascan traditions, these ethnic and cultural references blend together to tell new stories "à la 2 Mai"...
True to its upcycling concept, the brand has been hunting for these embroideries all over France for over two years.
From this raw material sprang the idea of a concept to reuse them and add to the 2 Mai wardrobe.
All 2 Mai parts will also be available for sale.
