Resident Portrait - Chloé Valorso

Chloé Valorso, a resident at Ateliers de Paris, is a sculptor of jewelry and objets d'art.

Meteorite, pebbles, sea urchin shells, silver dust, crocodile jaw fragments, compasses, fluorescent dinosaurs, disco ball mirrors, dried medicinal plants, tarot cards, plaster moulds, moults, dream phrases, image collages... populate her studio.

His encounters give rise to surreal associations: stones become anthropomorphic, a python's backbone becomes gold.

After studying contemporary jewelry at Central Saint Martins, she joined the Royal College of Art on a Master's degree in Sculpture - Jewellery - Metal. Her practice shifts from jewelry to body sculpture. She is interested in the primary meaning of jewelry as a medium for capturing the inner energies of our body, soul and spirit, in resonance with those outside. Techniques are porous, and the sculptures act on the body through their symbolism and the properties of the materials; real Witch Craft.

In 2018, thanks to an RCA grant, she set off to meet shamans in Indonesia. With them, she practices a conscious breathing technique that inspires her creations today. Her process is the result of this fusion, this ritual; breath impregnated into matter, an alchemical, connected approach, between mediums, mythologies with contemporary culture.

Chloé is a transdisciplinary creator, composing around a quartet of materials and techniques: metal, stone, clay and paper / molding, sculpture, drawing, writing. All her pieces are hand-crafted in her Paris studio, in close collaboration with Studio KO and l'Oeil de KO gallery.

Its news

In April, for Milan Design Week and the Métamorphique exhibition, Chloé presents a collection of objects and tableware from a natural fantasy where the elements are transformed. Mineral is psychedelic in a colorful alchemy. Marble veins become multicolored, symbols mingle with the stone's design. A contemporary reinterpretation of the stones of 17th-century Chinese scholars, inspired by agates, marbles and dendrites, which she calls "Dream Stones".

In June, she exhibits her first solo show with Lou Woolworth: "Parure Animale", an exhibition where iconic and antique jewelry rubs shoulders with her contemporary creations. It's a worn bestiary where our fingers are adorned with crab claws and timeless amulets. An encounter between the chimeras of the 19th century, Line Vautrin, Zolotas, Fred... and Chloé's Spirits jewelry.
