Laurine Schott, founder of SLAU Design Studio, an eco-social design studio that creates tools to address social and ecological issues in the fields of service, space and object design.

Transversality, commitment and bricology

Laurine Schott's creative approach is interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary and committed. Her works are tools at the service of social and ecological issues, with the aim of engaging the audiences to whom they are addressed. Her process is based on the analysis of complex systems, which she transcribes in a formal way using multiple media in order to transmit them in a popular and civic education approach. Her method values both theoretical reflection and manual practice, insofar as both influence each other. His method places the living being at the center of the technical and technological system, in an interaction that helps develop an ethical approach to creation.

Performing arts, production systems and ecological transition

Her questioning stems from her experience in the performing arts, where she worked for seven years as a metal fabricator and designer on large-scale projects. Noting the paradox of a sector capable of technical prowess in terms of design but unable to adapt its modes of manufacture to the ecological transition, she became interested in the question of the production system and the paradigms that organize it. Following this reflection, she undertook a professional conversion in design at the École Nationale des Beaux-arts de Lyon and a post-master's degree in Creation and Contemporary Technology at ENSCI-Les Ateliers, from which she graduated in 2017. She founded SLAU Design Studio in 2018.

Eco-social design, complex interactions and artistic tools

What mobilizes it is the principle of doing one's part by using ecosocial design as a lever for moving from individual to collective action. The systemic dimension of today's societal issues calls for analyses and responses that make complex interactions visible. With this in mind, she is developing work at the crossroads of art and design, between research, experimentation and creation, questioning the systems that govern design and production contexts, and inventing artistic tools in the service of a collective experience of emancipation.
