VSB_Atelier (Victoire de Brantes) × Jaipur Rugs

From April 20 to 26, during Milan Design Week, Victoire de Brantes, a resident of the Ateliers de Paris, will present the latest project from her studio, VSB, in collaboration with Jaipur Rugs as part of the Shakti Design Residency.

On display from April 20 to 26 at the Milan Design Week, this new project is the result of a collaboration between VSB_Atelier and Jaipur Rugs, as part of the Shakti Design Residency, a program that promotes exchanges between international designers and Indian artisans.

At VSB_Atelier, Victoire de Brantes develops a practice rooted in local contexts, materials, and craftsmanship, creating objects that function as narratives built from landscapes, gestures, and memories.

Made from hand-spun wool and bamboo silk using a hand-knotted rug technique, the project takes the form of a hybrid object that blends elements of both rugs and furniture. It consists of a textile surface and two modular base elements that can be used as seats or tables.

Developed in collaboration with artisans from Aaspura, near Jaipur, India, the project is based on an approach in which weavers create directly on the loom, without a preliminary design, drawing inspiration from their own stories.

The design is based on a bird’s-eye view of the landscape: fragments of everyday life—a tree, a path, a courtyard—are translated into woven forms that gradually converge toward a raised center. From this surface, the fabric unfolds into three dimensions, extending the object into space.

Blending textiles and furniture, the project offers an evolving form, to be experienced as a living landscape.
