Moussa Sylla at Atelier Latour - 2024
"Already when he came on placement I wanted him to come on apprenticeship." - Alexandra Latour
Moussa Sylla, winner of the Prix Savoir-Faire en transmission 2024, is interning with Alexandra Latour, founder of Atelier Latour, which specializes in art embroidery, combining manual techniques with the use of hand-guided machines (Cornely).
Alexandra and Moussa met at an open house in the Taillandiers housing estate, where the workshop is located. Alexandra quickly realized that Moussa had mastered the use of the Cornely, a rare skill he had learned on his uncle's machine in Côte d'Ivoire. Each year, only six graduates acquire this skill.
They began with an internship in 2020, followed by a two-year apprenticeship, before applying for the Savoir-faire en transmission award.

This year's internship will be an opportunity for him to acquire new techniques, deepen his practical skills, learn about the workshop's machine settings, and gain greater autonomy in his artistic creations. He is also keen to gain a deeper understanding of the applied arts, so that he can put his skills to better use.
At the same time, he will attempt to obtain a CAP in hand-guided machine embroidery.

"We've got a great project coming up, and the aim is to be able to hire Moussa half-time initially, and then three-quarters of the time.

For these enthusiasts, the Prix Savoir-Faire en transmission represents a unique opportunity. For Alexandra, it's a chance to share her techniques and experience, while learning from each other. For Moussa, it's a chance to obtain his CAP, reinforce the skills he's already acquired and open up new career prospects.
