Prix Savoir-faire en transmission - The 2024 winners
The Savoir-faire en transmission awards, dedicated to the art of craftsmanship, give participants the opportunity to gain significant and enriching professional experience through hands-on projects, to perfect a specific skill and to observe the day-to-day running of a company.
In 1979, the City of Paris set up a system of grants for training in the arts and crafts, enabling young adults with a professional integration project, whether or not they have a diploma, or are in the process of retraining, to complete their training by spending a full year in the workshop of an artisan. The Savoir-faire en transmission awards provide a significant and enriching professional experience with concrete projects, the opportunity to perfect a specific skill and to observe the day-to-day running of a business.
Each candidate must first make arrangements with an experienced craftsman or craftswoman, whose workshop is located in Paris or in other departments of the Ile-de-France region, where they can gain a better understanding and practice of the specificities of the trade for which they are destined, as well as the realities of company life. In the case of rare professions, the host company may be located outside the Ile-de-France region, and a company may host an intern from outside the region. The 12-month internships start in January or April, depending on the winner's choice.
For the 2024 edition, 22 prizes were awarded by the City of Paris and by the patrons of the scheme via the Fonds pour les Ateliers de Paris: the Fondation Michelle et Antoine Riboud, the Fondation Rémy Cointreau, 19 M, the Fédération Française de la Maroquinerie and the Alliance Européenne pour le Lin et le Chanvre.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of rare trades that are or have been practiced by winners.es du Prix Savoir-faire en Transmission: musical instrument maker (lutherie), musical instrument restorer, bow maker, ornamentalist, lacquerer, mosaicist, master glassmaker (vitrailliste), feather worker, tailor, glyptician, letter painter, wig maker, mask maker, gilder, decorative painter, scaler, gravure printer, milliner...
