Weaving, embroidering, enhancing: the art of textiles at the Palais Galliera
Until October 18, the Palais Galliera, Paris's fashion museum, is hosting an exhibition dedicated to textile ornamentation techniques from the 18th century to the present day.
The first installment in a three-part series of exhibitions devoted to fashion craftsmanship, the Palais Galliera invites you to explore the decorative techniques (weaving, printing, embroidery, lace, artificial flowers) used to embellish clothing and accessories.
From the brocade fabric of an 18th-century waistcoat to the laser printing of a Balenciaga ensemble, from Chantilly lace to Gabrielle Chanel's camellia, more than 350 works are presented in this exhibition, highlighting the wide variety of techniques used, while questioning their symbolism and uses.
