As part of JEMA 2025, the Bureau du Design, de la Mode et des Métiers d'art presents the exhibition "Fils et Filiations", an artistic exploration of the relationship between thread and memory. This universal, ancestral and tangible thread becomes here the symbol of an intimate dialogue between memory, past and filiation.

From tapestry to contemporary embroidery, blending textile art and collaborative installations, the exhibition questions how memories, family histories, collective narratives and other mythologies intertwine to create visual and sensitive narratives. Pushing back the boundaries of the textile medium, the creators in this exhibition explore a multitude of materials - linen, cotton, hemp, hair, wool, silk, polyester, plastic - and techniques such as weaving, knotting, embroidery, crocheting or braiding.
The creations on display don't just tell stories: they envelop, question and provoke a profound encounter with textile art in all its narrative and graphic power.

Audrey Demarre, curator of the exhibition and an embroidery artist, is the author of a book on contemporary embroidery , Broderies, anthologie curieuse (2024).

Fils et Filiations goes beyond the walls

The exhibition also extends beyond the walls, with a selection of works byHanako Stubbe at the Médiathèque Violette Leduc.

At the heart of Hanako's pieces is a fierce desire to pass on. Firstly, the know-how of the French spinning mills whose expertise she defends and with whom she works exclusively, and secondly, the essence of weaving. From yarn to work, Hanako is constantly building bridges, in a kind of uninterrupted dialogue between textile tradition and its posterity.
Hanako is an artisan weaver and textile designer, trained at ENSAAMA and ENSCI - Les Ateliers in Paris. She is currently in residence at Les Ateliers de Paris. Her practice focuses on the creation of exclusive, bespoke murals and hand-weavings for interior design. Her textiles explore fabric architecture, color interaction and the properties of locally sourced natural materials (wool and linen).
