Lily Alcaraz and Léa Berlier
Both textile designers, Lily and Léa met while studying at the Duperré School. Linked by a wonderful friendship and a passion for weaving, they founded their workshop in 2009. Their style? To be inspired by the material. Threads, but also leather and paper... that they cut, crush and weave on their looms.
They invent patterns, textures and sometimes even the tools to bring their ideas to life. Their approach is artisanal. While the computer allows them to project themselves into the final result and prepare their projects technically, it's by "assembling" their mechanical looms, operating pedals and levers, that they give birth to a few meters of hand-made material. "Our research work enables us to offer a textile collection in the form of samples or objects such as decorative panels", they explain.
Interior designers and luxury brands then place the order, sometimes requesting adaptations in terms of color, for example. There's also a more artistic side, where, after a brief, they create unique works to order. "We work in collaboration with other ateliers to develop new approaches. Right now, for example, we're exploring wood weaving and are in contact with a cabinetmaker. It's exciting to create a dialogue between artisans and designers, to imagine objects or furniture together", explains the pair, who do not rule out designing weavings intended for publication and therefore produced on a larger scale.
