In just a few years, Bâton Rouge has become a key player in Parisian cosmetics thanks to its made-to-measure lipsticks with the "Fabriqué à Paris" label. Behind this success is Christelle Percheron, a fervent advocate of ethical, sustainable craftsmanship.

The Marais boutique, designed as a modern, intimate boudoir, promises a premium personalized experience. For half an hour, customers are guided by a professional make-up artist through a customized co-creation journey. Shade, texture, fragrance: every detail is carefully chosen according to individual preferences and desires. After a few tests, the final formula is developed in the boutique's laboratory, and the customer leaves with a unique creation.

Christelle has adopted an eco-responsible approach to Bâton Rouge, based on on-demand production and natural formulas, while reviving artisanal methods.

" I wanted to return to traditional processes, with molds in which pigments are mixed by hand, as in the old days," confides the founder.

The formulas created are recorded so that customers can refill their cases. Rigorously sourced ingredients comply with strict quality criteria. Castor oil, a major component of the formulas, is combined with 100% natural, allergen-free fragrances.

To be able to offer such a product, Christelle carried out extensive development work. The adventure began in 2017, when the designer discovered the concept in Australia and recreated her favorite shade, unavailable in France. Seduced by the approach, she left her job in the pharmaceutical industry as soon as she returned to Paris to devote herself fully to her project. Her training as a chemist and her experience in laboratories enabled her to master all aspects of European regulations, reputed to be the most stringent in the world.

" No one had launched here before because of the technical and regulatory constraints," says Christelle. Convinced that Paris, the capital of fashion and beauty, was the ideal place to set up, she embarked on four years of research and development and officially launched Bâton Rouge in 2021. The lipstick range has been awarded the "Fabriqué à Paris" label for several years running, and won the Innovation prize at the 2023 edition.

" It's a source of pride for us as retailers and manufacturers. The label promotes our values of craftsmanship and local production," says Christelle.

The success of the brand led the chemist to move to a larger boutique, still in the Marais district. The new space not only welcomes more customers, but also organizes workshops for private and professional events. As for Bâton Rouge's philosophy, it continues to combine beauty, proximity and sustainability.
