Le Paysan Urbain reinvents urban agriculture by setting up ecological farms in the heart of the capital. Since 2015, this committed initiative has blended local production, social integration and environmental awareness. Nestled in the 20ᵉ arrondissement, the Charonne farm covers 6,700 m² and is a veritable island of biodiversity in the heart of the city.

Bioclimatic greenhouses grow micro-pods and seedlings for restaurants and local residents. Further afield, flowering and medicinal areas promote pollination and enrich biodiversity with edible flowers and plants with therapeutic properties.

A nature corner built around a pond is home to a variety of fauna and contributes to the ecological balance of the site. Finally, an on-site boutique enables visitors to buy ultra-fresh products directly, from aromatic herbs to micro-foams, while supporting local, sustainable agriculture.

Beyond its agricultural vocation, Le Paysan Urbain places people at the heart of its project.

"We believe that cultivating together also means recreating social ties and giving everyone a chance to find their place."

La ferme de Charonne is a place for professional integration, offering jobs to people in difficulty and encouraging their reintegration into the job market.

"We like to pass on what we know, because every seed planted is an idea that germinates in visitors' minds."

Guided tours, introductions to growing techniques and edible and medicinal plant discovery workshops punctuate life at the farm. The association also organizes educational workshops to raise awareness among young and old of the challenges of urban agriculture and sustainable food.

"Every day we show that another way of feeding the city is possible, and that it starts here, together, in the heart of Paris."

By combining traditional techniques with agro-ecological practices adapted to the city, Le Paysan Urbain demonstrates that producing locally and responsibly is not only possible, but essential. With this farm in the heart of Paris, the initiative is establishing itself as a key player in the capital's ecological and social transition.
