ESAT Ménilmontant - Ceramics
In the heart of Paris' 20th arrondissement, ESAT Ménilmontant opens the doors of its workshop-boutique, a unique place where arts and crafts come to life through the talented hands of its disabled workers.
Founded in 1970, this ESAT offers its 153 workers both professional and social support. A multi-disciplinary team ensures that the needs of each worker are met, while training them in genuine know-how. The artistic center houses two main workshops: ceramics and pottery, and artistic painting, to which we add the decoration of silk scarves with the Fabriqué à Paris label.
In an inclusive and creative setting, creations range from plates and bowls to sculptures and masks.
"Everything is handmade, from start to finish, and each person develops his or her own universe, colors and shapes.
Léa, one of the ceramists, enthusiastically shares her creative process: "First I makea clay slab, cut it, smooth it, then put it to dry before thefirst firing. Then we decorate and glaze for a second firing ". After fourteen years in the studio, she is renowned for her unique works, such as her water-lily bowls and cups, which she signs with pride.

The boutique workshop attracts a loyal and diversified clientele, " explains the workshop instructor, "Some customers come back every year to discovernew products oradd to their collection .
In addition to creation, ESAT Ménilmontant is a place for transmission and exchange. " We train real professionals here ," insist the workshop instructors. Each worker follows a rigorous integration program, including several internships, before fully committing to a professional career. Collaboration between artists is also emphasized, as in the case of Léa, who creates the bowls, which are then decorated by her colleagues.
