Mayeul Gauvin - Painting / Decorative murals

Mayeul Gauvin is a painter-mosaicist who designs painted decors on objects, furniture and walls, for professional decorators. Mayeul employs a singular language in her creations, offering a fresh take on mural painting.
"After graduating with a degree in Literature, I took a VAE course to study Heritage Valorization. It got me very involved in safeguarding know-how, but I ended up realizing that what I really wanted was to be part of it."
That's how she joined the Pivaut school, where she trained in Decorative Painting for three years. After graduating, she moved to Belgium to work in the studio of artist Isabelle de Borchgrave, before settling in Paris in 2017 as a freelance artist.
In 2020, in the midst of a health crisis, she founded her own workshop. Two years later, she joined the Ateliers de Paris incubator and, for the past year, has been based at Cité des Taillandiers, in the 11ᵉ arrondissement, where she now develops all her projects.

"I work as much with textures as with trompe-l'oeil and frescoes."
Through his practice, Mayeul questions both the aesthetics of his creations (colors, materials, dimensions) and the meaning his immersive paintings create for the viewer. Her work is rooted in respect for the environment and tradition. She specializes in the use of non-polluting materials and ancient techniques.

"I work with natural raw materials such as egg, paper, linseed oil or stone powder. In my studio, this self-imposed constraint concerning the impact of materials is a real breadcrumb trail and feeds my creativity."
This approach enables him, for example, to manufacture stone-cardboard objects in his workshop, using stone powder from limestone quarries in the Paris basin, or paper powder supplied by local companies.

During her residency at the Ateliers de Paris incubator two years ago, Mayeul discovered the Fabriqué à Paris label. Since then, she has renewed her application every year.
For her workshop, this label represents much more than a distinction. It also embodies a collective commitment to developing creations in partnership with other Parisian artisans.
"The label recognizes an important part of my work: working close to home, shortening production circuits, gaining in sobriety. Going local is a real daily commitment.

In 2024, she received 2ᵉ place in the Innovation prize, an award that confirmed the rightness of her path.
"Being recognized for this approach has encouraged me to continue down this path.
