To enjoy a Patoche beer, head straight to the Montmartre microbrewery. Alex Della Chiara and Hugo Bécart opened their brewpub in 2022 with the ambition of producing and distributing their "Made in Paris" label beers in a single location. The two enthusiasts also offer introductory courses in craft brewing, followed by tasting sessions, so that Parisians no longer have any secrets about beer.

At the end of the 19th century, Paris was home to dozens of microbreweries, but by 1948 only six remained. Over the past fifteen years or so, urban microbreweries have been making a comeback, driven by production methods that favor quality over quantity. Seduced by the movement, Alex and Hugo left their respective jobs to devote themselves entirely to their passion. After five years of research and experimentation in Alex's father's garage, they decided to launch their own company under the name "Patoche", a nod to the man who supported them. " We wanted a simple name. And it always makes you smile. We all think of someone we know," they explain.

From the outset, the childhood friends based their model on production and distribution in a single location, cutting out the middleman as much as possible. Equipped with eight 500-liter fermenters, they offer a dozen in-house creations, such as La Montmartroise pale ale and Pigallaktik New England IPA, produced from French organic ingredients. Visitors are free to consume on the premises, or take away a can or bulk solution. Occasionally, Patoche also welcomes references from their neighbors, such as Brasserie de l'Être, whose beers can also claim the "Fabriqué à Paris" label.

While their iconic location attracts many tourists, Alex and Hugo are also looking to win over Parisians.

" Brewing beer for someone who's passing through is great, but we also want to do it for the people who live here," they explain.

It's this involvement in the local fabric that motivated them to sign up to the "Fabriqué à Paris" label. " It ' s easy to see that we're brewing on site," says Alex, looking around the vats. " For us, the label is recognition from local institutions, a way of becoming part of a group of Parisian manufacturers rather than going it alone." The creators of Patoche beers are also committed to passing on their knowledge to their customers, and offer craft brewing initiations that will delight the eyes and taste buds of zythophiles.

The " Brewpub " was awarded the Fabriqué à Paris label in 2024
